Celebrating the progress!

I had the privilege of traveling to Guatemala last week, and was able to celebrate the strides of progress that the Tapestry women have made the last three years, since the launch of Tapestry in 2012. The majority of the 40+ Tapestry workers had no knowledge of crochet prior to the beginning of this project. They have worked diligently to learn new, challenging stitches and also to improve their quality of workmanship. They can be proud of their success, and the unique products that they have introduced into the global market.

From Chicman, Quiche (5-6 hours from Guatemala City), I traveled the 1-1/2 to 2 hours with Jaquelin, Tapestry's administrator, and Aracely, manager of accessorizing, to the two primary regions where Tapestry products are made. We were able to give them a small year-end bonus, and congratulate them for their advancement in their skills, and competency in consistently reproducing the colorful designs. The told us about their satisfaction in learning new skills, and communicated,(some with tears) their gratefulness in having a little extra cash to support their family. We discussed our vision for the future, shared some yummy tamales together, and celebrated the progress!
